About Solid Stairs.
Solid Stairs is a specialist staircase builder located in Port Macquarie on the NSW Mid North Coast. The company is owned and operated by Dennis van Mill, a second-generation stair builder. Dennis is supported by two fully qualified carpenter-joiners, who have trained in stair manufacture and installation.
Solid Stairs primarily serves new home construction and renovations in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region.
Solid Stairs are skilled in working with a wide range of timbers and metals. Their favourite timber is Blackbutt, a locally grown and milled Australian hardwood that looks great and wears particularly well. Using Australian hardwoods helps to minimise waste and preserve our old-growth forests.
According to Dennis, making and installing staircases is a specialised field that requires attention to detail and a commitment to quality. At Solid Stairs, everything is done properly to ensure a quality product that doesn’t start creaking a couple of years down the track.
Meet the Solid Stairs team.
Dennis completed his Carpenter/Joiner’s apprenticeship with his father’s staircase construction business in Batemans Bay on the NSW South Coast. During his apprenticeship, he also obtained his Builder’s Certificate. In 2001, he established Solid Stairs in Port Macquarie and took on his first apprentice just three years later. In 2008, he installed Solid Stairs’ 1000th staircase.
Aran joined the Solid Stairs team as an apprentice and has since completed his apprenticeship under the guidance of Dennis. He is now a fully-qualified stair builder, bringing his expertise and dedication to the craft to every project.
Jack joined the team after completing his apprenticeship with Genneral Staircase in Sydney. With a strong foundation in staircase construction and a passion for woodworking, Jack has quickly become an essential member of the team. His keen eye for detail and dedication to quality craftsmanship has made him a valuable addition to the Solid Stairs family.
